As I work doggedly–for years to come, most likely–on my first book, I wanted an outlet for sharing the work I was doing along the way, since I won’t have time or energy to regularly publish articles the way I have for the last few years. This radio show is how I am sharing the work I am doing with everyone as I go. I make it for Echobox Radio, but I’m also keeping an archive here, to ensure you can hear each broadcast the way it was intended and because I love paying for extra Google Drive storage space for all of my incredible free content. The book is called Sounds Coming Out of the Land: How Northeast Ohio Modernized Rock Music and this radio show is helping me flesh out the proposal over the course of time. This book is going to change the narrative about my home region and the expectations of quality for music writing permanently!!! It’s going to stay in print forever and pay me forever: if you think your book publishing company can handle these commitments and expectations, get at me.

Sounds Coming Out of the Land #7: Noam Chomsky on Israel and Palestine
In consideration of the ongoing atrocity in Gaza, I felt a responsibility as an American to use my broadcast hour this month to play some excerpts from Noam Chomsky’s full lecture on Israel and Palestine which thoroughly explain the conflict and historical precedents for various things, wildly predict the last decade of events relating to this conflict, and make clear the United States is the only nation in the world that could realistically stop what is happening. Maybe we will learn about Burning River Blues next month, if the world improves, but we seem to be marching right off a cliff, so we’ll see.
Sounds Coming Out of the Land #8: Judith Butler’s Edward Said Memorial Lecture
In further consideration of the fact that the crisis in Gaza has only become more dire and obviously genocidal, this weekend Echobox Radio is raising awareness and funds for the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and I’m continuing to play lectures from some of my favorite Jewish American anti-Zionist leftist scholars instead of creating new content as a way of trying to demand people attend to this crisis instead of dropping out of awareness of it as it happens in real time, in every moment. Here is the latest, the Edward Said Memorial Lecture by Dr. Judith Butler, who is a Cleveland native!
