Remember when Donald Trump became president of the United States? Do you recall the immediate sense of impending doom and panic? I remember going to therapy and talking about how I was so shocked and so uncertain of what to do in response, saying all I had come up with so far was to actually look at people, say hello to them, and to ask them how they are doing. I felt certain that most people had a profound and immediate need to be seen and checked in with. Seeing one another is one of the greatest acts of love and consideration available to us all the time. Seeing each other as beautiful is…well, according to Dorothy Allison…the only way for us to truly know beauty in any form. Staying beautiful is how we prevent the cycle of trauma and alienation from being perpetuated.
This is not new, but it is a very important message and sonic balm to share right now.
Buy it here tomorrow, on Juneteenth Day, when Bandcamp is sending their share of the revenue to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund.
